MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (KNSI) Groundbreaking for the new Minnesota Vikings stadium is tentatively set for October 2013.
Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority Chairwoman Michele Kelm-Helgen announced the date at Friday's board meeting.
The $975 million stadium will be built on the site of the Metrodome in downtown Minneapolis.
The date is a bit later that the timetable previously mentioned by authority and team officials. They initially projected groundbreaking to take place sometime during the third quarter of 2013.
But Kelm-Helgen says both the Vikings and the authority "are good" with the timeframe.
The Vikings hope to open the new stadium in time for the 2016 season.
