ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - A man described by police as suicidal was in police custody after a four hour long stand-off Friday with St. Cloud police officers.

According to reports, police were notified that a 43-year-old man with a gun was at the Gateway Hotel on the 300 block of Lincoln Avenue South East just before 5 p.m. Friday, contemplating suicide.

Police set up a perimeter around the address and the department's tactical response team and tactical negotiators were called to make contact.

After a four-and-a-half hour stand-off as well as several attempts by negotiators to talk with the man, the Circle Pines man exited the room and was taken into custody.

The man had minor injuries and it was determined that the he did not possess a firearm. The investigation remained ongoing, pending possible charges of obstructing the legal process.

The St. Cloud police were assisted by the Sauk Rapids Police Department's K-9 unit.
