ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - Five candidates vying to becoming St. Cloud's next police chief will be in town this week for interviews with Mayor Dave Kleis' appointed search committee.

The five candidates include St. Cloud interim police chief Richard Wilson as well as four other candidates from outside the department, St. Cloud city administrator Mike Williams confirmed Monday.

The other candidates are Carver County chief deputy William Blair Anderson, Moorhead police chief David Ebinger, Duluth police Cmdr. Leigh Wright and Chicago, Ill. police Lt. Maurice Richards.

Wilson was named interim chief in January following the retirement of former chief Dennis Ballentine.

The five candidates will interview with the Kleis' 13-member board Wednesday. The top three finalists will then go through separate interviews with Kleis, who will make the final selection.

Kleis said he intends to name the new chief by next month.
