ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) The Minnesota Health Department says they've linked the death of one patient to the case of a former nurse at St. Cloud Hospital who stole pain medication from I-V bags and replaced it with saline solution.

The department says the patient died within two days of contracting the infection. But St. Cloud Hospital officials dispute those findings. Spokeswoman Jeanine Nistler--in a written statement--said the patient who died had tested positive for an infection when admitted to the hospital, and quickly deteriorated.

Fourty two year-old Blake Zenner of Kimball was charged last month with stealing drugs from the I-V bags of at least 23 patients between October 2010 and March 2011, and replacing it with salt water.

Zenner has pleaded guilty and surrendered his nursing license. The patients--including the one that died--have not been publicly identified.
