ST. CLOUD, MN (KNSI) - The St. Cloud Catholic Diocese is aiding the effort to ban same-sex marriage in Minnesota.
The diocese donated $50,000 to the campaign supporting an constitutional amendment that would outlaw gay marriage in the state. The donation was made earlier this month -- it was disclosed in campaign finance reports released Wednesday.
Initially the money went to the Minnesota Catholic Conference Marriage Defense Fund and that was then directed to Minnesota for Marriage, the driving force behind the ballot measure.
Minnesota voters will cast a ballot on the amendment in November.
