ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) The St. Cloud City Council discussed three road construction projects at their meeting last night--and approved two of them.
The council gave the okay on improvements to Washington Memorial Drive from University Drive to 11th Street, and to 10th Avenue North. But they voted 6-to-1 against a plan to connect 16th Street South to Roosevelt Road. More than a dozen residents spoke out against that project, saying it would increase traffic on a street that has three schools in the area, and have a negative impact on neighborhoods.
Sonja Berg was the only council member to voteĀ for that project.
About 1,300 vehicles travel 16th Street South each day. If the street was connected to Roosevelt Road, traffic counts would go up to 6,900 a day.
