ST. CLOUD (KNSI) - Veterans from around central Minnesota are gathering at St. Cloud Armory on Friday - it's the fall season Standdown.
The twice-yearly event provides area veterans access to warm clothing, boots, blankets and sleeping bags, along with everything from employment help and legal advice, to haircuts and eye exams.
St. Cloud Standdown is a non-profit organization, and they've been hosting the event for about 15 years.
Tom Smith is the coordinator of the warehouse that stores Standdown's surplus. He says they'll see anywhere from 300 to 350 vets walk through the armory doors today.
Smith says it's rewarding to give something back to those who have served the country in war times.
St. Cloud Standdown is not affiliated with the VA Health Care System, and is entirely volunteer run. It runs until 3pm Friday.
Standdown is always seeking community donations - for more information on how to get involved, you can contact them at P.O. Box 24, St. Cloud, MN 56302.
