ST. CLOUD (AP) - A judge has set bail at $3 million for a St. Cloud man accused of fatally stabbing his 72-year-old mother last Saturday.
Fifty-two-year-old Dean Friese is charged with second-degree murder. Friese is accused of stabbing his mother, Lois Arlene Omeara, as many as eight times at the apartment complex where they lived in separate units.
Friese was in a wheelchair at his first court appearance Tuesday. He didn't object when prosecutor Josh Kannegieter requested the $3 million bail.
Kannegieter told the judge that Friese pulled the medical alarm at his apartment because he knew that would bring his mother, who was the manager on-call.
Omeara was stabbed as she entered her son's apartment.
Friese was arrested at the scene and was cooperative.
