ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) St. Cloud fire investigators have been unable to determine the cause of a July 15th fire in the basement of a St. Cloud home.

A smoke detector alerted the occupants of the home at 2216 10th Avenue South of the fire.

St. Cloud Fire Marshal Mike Post says it's believed the fire started on or near a mattress, and the cause is believed to have been accidental.

A family dog died in the fire.

Fire departments from St. Cloud and St. Augusta extinguished the early morning fire.
