ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - St. Cloud as well as much of central and southern Minnesota were under a winter weather advisory late Saturday for what the National Weather Service described as the first widespread winter weather event of the season featuring both strong winds and snow.
The mix of rain and snow was expected to develop over west central and southwest Minnesota late Saturday afternoon, changing rapidly over to snow from west to east throughout the evening, the NWS reported.
St. Cloud was on the western edge of the storm area and was expected to receive snow amounts of 1 to 3 inches during the evening and overnight hours Saturday into Sunday morning.
North to northwest winds of about 10 to 15 mph were expected to increase to between 23 and 26 mph Saturday night, creating the potential for some dangerous driving conditions some New Year's Eve celebrations.
