CLEARWATER, Minn. (AP) — To restart his political career and take Representative Michele Bachmann's seat in Congress, Tom Emmer first needs to beat fellow Republican and underdog Rhonda Sivarajah.
Emmer (pictured) says he's re-introducing himself to voters after a tough loss in the 2010 gubernatorial election, pitching a candidacy based on customer service. Sivarajah portrays herself as a no-nonsense conservative who can deliver the same results in Congress as she has on Anoka County's governing board.
In the heavily conservative 6th District, the winner of Tuesday's Republican primary will be the clear favorite to replace Bachmann. Sartell Mayor Joe Perske is on the ballot for Democrats.
Emmer has been the front runner for the GOP nomination since launching his campaign last year. He won the party's endorsement and has a big fundraising edge over Sivarajah.
