ST. CLOUD, MN (KNSI) – A judge handed down a maximum sentence in the case of an alcohol related car crash that resulted in the death of a Holdingford teen three years ago on a Stearns County roadway.
Eugene Rivetts got 10 years of prison time for the August 2009 crash that killed 19-year-old Ryan Dezurik. That is the maximum sentence possible for Rivetts on a criminal vehicular homicide conviction.
Rivetts reached speeds exceeding 95 mph when his Hummer crossed the center line of Stearns County Road 17 and plowed into Dezurik's Toyota. Rivetts passenger Tim Rausch initially said he was driving the Hummer, then Rivetts pleaded guilty earlier this year.
