ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) Another statewide seat belt enforcement effort is underway in Minnesota as people prepare to travel for the Memorial Day weekend.
The "Click It or Ticket" campaign runs through June 2nd, with more than 400 law enforcement agencies across Minnesota increasing patrols to encourage motorists to buckle up.
The Minnesota Department of Public Safety's Office of Traffic Safety says from 2010 through 2012, there were 864 traffic deaths on Minnesota roads and highways. Fourty one percent of those killed were not wearing a seat belt.
Statistics show that teens and young adults continue to represent a large percentage of unbelted traffic deaths.
