ST. PAUL, Minn. (KNSI) Recovery efforts have resumed at the site of a fatal landslide in a St. Paul park along the Mississippi River.

A fourth-grade field trip to a Lilydale Regional Park turned deadly Wednesday when gravel saturated by persistent rain gave way, killing one child and injuring two others. The search for another child who is missing resumed Thursday morning.

Fire Marshal Steve Zaccard says police and firefighters dug frantically with shovels and their hands to get to the children Wednesday afternoon. He estimated it took an hour to rescue a child buried to the waist, and another half-hour to reach the buried child as more workers and equipment were moved in.

The students were among 49 fourth-graders from two classrooms on the field trip from Peter Hobart Elementary School in St. Louis Park.
