ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) St. Cloud Fire Chief Bill Mund has released the department's annual report for 2012.
The department's call volume increased two-point-seven percent compared to 2011. Medical calls accounted for just over 68-percent of all calls for service.
Mund says fiire calls saw a big jump last year--353, compared to 207 in 2011.
There were 13 arson fires in 2012, up from just five the year before.
There was one fire fatality in St. Cloud last year. Kyle Kopischke died November 24th in a cooking-related fire in his apartment in the 500-block of Eighth Avenue South. Kopischke was a St. Cloud Technical and Community College student from Comfrey, Minnesota. The smoke detector in the apartment was disabled on found on a shelf in the victim's bedroom with the battery removed.
Mund says it's the third consecutive year there has been a fire-related fatality in St. Cloud.
