MAYHEW LAKE, Minn. (KNSI) - A Sauk Rapids woman suffered serious injuries after her vehicle veered into a ditch and slammed into a tree in Benton County Wednesday, according to the Benton County Sheriff's Department.
Nancy Vanscoik was airlifted to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale following the crash along the 3300 block of Little Rock Road Northeast in Mayhew Lake Township around 7:50 a.m. Wednesday, Benton County Sheriff Brad Bennett said.
Vanscoik, 48, was traveling westbound when she apparently lost control of the vehicle and slid into the south ditch along the roadway before striking a large tree.
Emergency crews had to pry open the door to get Vanscoik out of the vehicle. She was hospitalized with serious and potentially life-threatening injuries, Bennett said.
Bennett said the roadway was covered in ice and slush at the time of the crash and the cause was under investigation.
Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the crash. Vanscoik was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
