SARTELL, Minn. (AP) - A Minnesota woman is celebrating a big number.
Esther Sharrow, of Sartell, is the guest of honor at the local senior center where family and friends will gather to help her celebrate birthday number 106 Thursday.
Theodore Roosevelt was president when Sharrow was born on April 5, 1906. Remarkably, Sharrow lives alone in her own apartment and doesn't take any prescription medicine.
Sharrow attributes her longevity to working hard throughout her life. She grew up on a farm in Luverne when horses, not tractors, were used for planting and harvesting. The farm didn't have running water or electricity.
Sharrow was married twice. Her second husband died in 2008 and age 96. Her birthday wish? She says that she hopes to be healthy for the remaining years of her life.
