(KNSI) — A 20-year-old Sartell man is facing several charges after allegedly driving drunk, hitting another vehicle, and driving off.

According to the criminal complaint, a man was driving in the roundabout at County Road 1 and Heritage Drive in Sartell Sunday evening about 7:30 when he was hit from behind by a truck. He said the truck went around him and continued on Heritage Drive to Roberts Road and parked in a garage at an apartment complex. The driver said he confronted a young man who said he was not in an accident and didn’t know what the driver was talking about. Then he said he would go get his insurance information but went into the apartment and never came out.

An officer with the Sartell Police Department called the registered owner of the vehicle, who told police his son, Wesley Harmon, was the current driver of the truck.

Police went in and spoke with Harmon, who they say had watery, bloodshot eyes and was swaying and smelled of alcohol. They say Harmon admitted to driving the truck but denied leaving the scene of a crash. The criminal complaint says the officer explained that the other driver described what Harmon looked like and told Harmon he appeared to be under the influence. The officer said he asked him to perform field sobriety tests, which he refused. Harmon was arrested and taken to the Sartell Police Department.

At around 9:20, a breath test was given, and the criminal complaint says he blew a .20, nearly two hours after the crash.

He has been charged with second-degree DWI, second-degree DWI with a BAC of over .08 within two hours, a traffic violation for underage drinking and driving, underage consumption, and leaving the scene of a crash.

Court records show a previous DUI conviction in Benton County in January 2021 and another in Mille Lacs County in 2019.

Harmon is due back in court in November.
