SARTELL, Minn. (KNSI) - Dr. Joseph Hill will cease to be superintendent of the Sartell-St. Stephen Schools this summer.
The District 748 School Board officially and unanimously approved Dr. Hill's resignation at a special meeting held on Friday afternoon.
Dr. Hill's contract with the district was renewed last October for the next three years, but the school board says an agreement was reached between Dr. Hill and the board in order to help with his transition into another role.
2012 was a rocky year for the district, with turnover in four board positions and disagreement on whether or not to renew Dr. Hill's contract.
Dr. Hill has served as the district's superintendent since 2010.
In a prepared statement to board members and meeting goers, he expressed gratitude, stating his "greatest pleasure was in serving alongside our school's staff and administration in the noble work of educating and inspiring the youth across our communities."
Details surrounding Dr. Hill's decision have not been specified, but in his statement, Hill writes, "Through candid conversations with board leadership, I believe that it is in the best interest of my convictions and the direction of the district that I step down as the superintendent of the Sartell-St. Stephen School District."
Dr. Hill says he's planning to take time off following his last day to consider his next move.
