MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The Lakeville father who abandoned his young son and traveled to California has been allowed to speak with the boy for the first time in about a year.
Steven Cross and 12-year-old Sebastian got together at a therapist's office Thursday. Cross tells the Minneapolis Star Tribune (http://bit.ly/MIksPg) he was able to apologize to his son for leaving.
Cross left Minnesota last July when his house was in foreclosure. Cross said he left to find work. He wrote a letter instructing his son to go to a neighbor's house and another letter asking the neighbors to become his son's guardian. Sebastian later moved in with a great-aunt and has since been reunited with his mother, who he thought was dead.
Cross was convicted earlier this year of misdemeanor child neglect.
