Rockville gunman at HCMC

ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) A Walker man suspected of shooting and killing a man in Rockville is now hospitalized in Minneapolis.

Stearns County Sheriff John Sanner says 28 year-old Marcus Barshaw is at Hennepin County Medical Center. He had been in critical condition at St. Cloud Hospital.

Sanner says Barshaw was wanted in the death of 30 year-old Jeffrey Schutz, who died of multiple gunshot wounds behind his home in Rockville early Sunday morning.

Deputies spotted Barshaw about four hours after the shooting exiting the rear of a four-unit apartment building at 311 Elm Street in Rockville. He was armed with an assault rifle and handgun, and refused orders to drop them.

When he began to raise one of the weapons toward law enforcement officers, a deputy shot him three times.

Sanner says the deputy has been a member of his department for 6 1/2 years, and has been placed on paid administrative leave. His name has not been released.
