ST. MARTIN, MN (KNSI) - Some residents in St. Martin Township are concerned about a proposal to rezone five acres of property at a tire recycling plant.

Monitor Tire Disposal Incorporated wants the land re-zoned from agricultural to industrial. The property would be used to store trucks and trailers. But some nearby residents are concerned about heavy truck traffic gong to and from the plant, and they say the re-zoning would pose an environmental threat to nearby wetlands.

Monitor Tire began business in 1988, and employs 14 people.

St. Martin Mayor Jim Rothstein lives near the plant, and testified at a public hearing that most of the traffic concerns and other issues could be addressed through permit conditions.
