AITKIN, Minn. (AP) — A group of people fishing on the ice of Mille Lacs Lake in Aitkin County found themselves stranded when a huge piece of ice broke away.
Three area fire departments used a Hovercraft and boats to move more than a dozen people from the ice island to shore Wednesday night. An exact number of people rescued is not immediately available.
Authorities say no one fell into the frigid water. The Daily Dispatch says unseasonably mild temperatures lately have officials warning people to stay off the ice.
