CLARA CITY, Minn. (AP) - A state representative has filed papers to run for the state Senate seat held by the late Sen. Gary Kubly.
Rep. Lyle Koenen, DFL-Clara City, says he knows he can't replace Kubly but he hopes to reflect his values.
Kubly died March 2 after a battle with Lou Gehrig's disease. He was 68.
Koenen has served in the House of Representatives since 2002 and has been a committee member of the pivotal Taxes Committee, Property and Local Taxes Division, Local Government, Agriculture Policy, Agriculture Finance, Environment Policy, Environment Finance, and State Government Finance. Also, he is former chair of the Veterans Affairs Division.
The West Central Tribune reports a special election is set for April 10. A primary, if necessary, will be held March 27.
