ST. CLOUD, MN (KNSI) - Stearns County officials are studying plans to renovate the 26 year-old Law Enforcement Center in downtown St. Cloud.
The plan calls for renovating the first floor and adding a female cell block in that area. The second floor would be renovated into a more secure booking area for inmates. The upper level would become a secure storage area. The total cost of the project would run in the five to six-million dollar range.
That's far less than the cost of building a new criminal justice center--which could run 90-million dollars or more. The Board of Commissioners has agreed to hire an architect for the project, and appoint members to a project oversight committee as well.
