Regents to vote on freezing undergrad tuition

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - University of Minnesota regents are considering a freeze on undergraduate tuition.

The Board of Regents meets Friday to take up President Eric Kaler's proposed $1 billion biennial budget. Kaler is asking for $91 million more during the biennium, an increase of about 8 percent. Part of that, $14 million for each of the two years, would be linked to a tuition freeze for in-state undergraduates.
 
The funding request also includes $11.5 million in the second year of the biennium for an ''accountability fund.'' That money would be released if the university awards more degrees, boosts financial aid and maintains research and development spending.
