RICE, MN (KNSI) - An overpass in Rice that's been talked about for years is now in its final planning stages.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation says an overpass will be built that will carry Highway 10 traffic over Benton County Road 2. MnDOT says the overpass will remove all left turn median movements, making the interchange safer.
The total cost is estimated at just under 18-million dollars. Construction is expected to begin next year, and could continue into 2014.
Rice Mayor Mitch Fiedler feels it's a project whose time has come. He says his uncle and aunt were killed at that intersection just before stoplights were installed in the late 1990's.
A public hearing on the project will be held July 2nd at 7 pm at Rice City Hall.
