(KNSI)--Motorists traveling on Highway 23 in St. Cloud east of Cooper Avenue will encounter lane closures and nighttime detours when a pedestrian bridge project begins today.
Crews will replace the existing pedestrian bridge and sidewalk approaches.
Project manager Dan Labo with the Minnesota Department of Transportation says bridge demolition will begin at 7:00 pm tonight, and will be finished by morning rush hour Tuesday.
During the construction phase, traffic will use a detour on Wilson Avenue, East St. Germain Street and Lincoln Avenue.
Labo says the $1.5 million project should be completed by late August, weather permitting.
