ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) Second-degree assault charges have been filed against a Paynesville man, who's accused of beating his girlfriend and putting her in the hospital.
Thirty nine year-old Raymond Hanson is alleged to have stomped on his girlfriend's face and chest, her breaking ribs.
She also had a stab would to her back.
Stearns County deputies arrested Hanson early Saturday morning as he was walking in the area where the assault occurred.
The victim told investigators she locked herself in a bedroom in an attempt to get away from Hanson, but he broke down the door and began beating her.
She tried to defend herself with a pocket knife. Hanson had a cut to his stomach, but was not seriously injured.
Hanson told investigtors he assaulted his girlfriend in self defense.
