PAYNESVILLE, MN (KNSI) - The Minnesota DOT says the new Highway 23 bypass around Paynesville will open this Friday, July 20th.
The opening comes more than a month ahead of schedule.
Barricades will start coming down at nine o'clock next Friday morning, and motorists will be able to start using the bypass by noon, weather permitting.
The four-lane divided bypass is seven-and-a-half miles long, and will carry traffic around Paynesville, instead of right through the heart of downtown. The city of Paynesville will host a grand opening celebration to mark the completion of the project sometime in mid-August.
