ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - A St. Cloud Hospital patient was arrested and faced assault charges after he became combative and attacked several staff members in the hospital's emergency room Saturday, a police spokesman said.

Matthew David Garlitz was taken by ambulance to St. Cloud Hospital Saturday morning suffering from an unknown medical condition, according to St. Cloud police Sgt. Jeff Janssen.

As he was being treated by hospital staff in the emergency room, Janssen said Garlitz, 26, became agitated and starting swinging his arms and legs. Garlitz kicked one staff, punched another, then grabbed and pinched a third worker, all while yelling profanities and making vulgar comments to workers, Janssen said.

Five employees suffered minor injuries before staff was able to restrain Garlitz and bring him under control.
