ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - Here's a chance for you to help out hungry families in the St. Cloud area during the 7th annual Pack the Porches food drive on Friday.
All food collected will go to Catholic Charities Emergency Services Food Shelf in St. Cloud.
Coborn’s is helping by matching up to 10,000 pounds of food donated.
The food drives founder, Dan Barth, owner of Pioneer Place on Fifth, said the event gets its name from the front porch on the building.
The event has expanded over the years to now include three drop-off locations, Pioneer Place on Fifth in St. Cloud, St. Cloud Hyundai, and Health Partners Clinic in Sartell.
"You just pull right up in front of Pioneer Place, our volunteers will come down and take the food donation or cash donation right out of your car give you a cup of coffee and send you on your way, so it can't be any easier than that," says Barth.
Drop off is between 7 and 1 on Friday.
March is Minnesota FoodShare Month; a time when your cash donation to an area food shelf goes even farther.
"It's estimated that for every dollar that is donated, Catholic Charities through second harvest, can turn that into $7, and it's amazing what they can purchase for that."
Last year, the event collected more than 24,000 pounds of food and raised more than $10,000.
In 2016 Catholic Charities Food Shelf served over 2,300 families a month and distributed over two million pounds of food.
Once again KNSI will be broadcasting from Pioneer Place on Fifth from 6 to 9 on Friday morning.
