UNDATED (AP) Jack Morris has reached the final year of his Hall of Fame eligibility, and his candidacy has been threatened by a crowded ballot.
Morris received 67.7 percent of votes cast by the Baseball Writers Association of America in 2013, short of the three-quarters required. This time, a group of premier starting pitchers has debuted on the ballot with Tom Glavine, Mike Mussina and Greg Maddux.
Nobody was elected last year, so there's a backlog of candidates in 2014. That could wind up keeping Morris out when results are revealed on Wednesday.
His former teammate Alan Trammell says he's hoping Morris will get in, calling the right-hander "as good as there was" for the 14 years they played together in Detroit.
