FOLEY, Minn. (KNSI) - A woman is dead and a man seriously injured after an early morning crash in rural Benton County.
The Benton County Sheriff's Office reports the crash between a car and a semi-truck happened around 7:45 on Tuesday morning at the intersection of County Road 12 and County Road 78.
An investigation indicates the truck was heading west on 12 and the car south on 78. They report the car initally stopped at the stop sign at the intersection, but then pulled out in front of the truck, which did not have a stop sign.
Authorities say they found both vehicles off the road near the scene of the crash. The driver of the truck, 65 year-old Dale Scholl of Royalton, was treated for serious injuries at the scene before being taken to St. Cloud Hospital by ambulance, where he is listed in stable condition.
The driver of the car, 79 year-old Carol Theis of Pierz, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash also resulted in damaged power lines, causing an electrical outage, as well as the load of corn carried by the truck spilling out onto the road. The intersection was closed to traffic afterward.
The crash remains under investigation.
