ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) A pilot project in the works for this fall replaces those reams of voter sign-in sheets at polling places with electronic rosters.
The Legislature approved the e-roster project in a limited number of precincts. The results will determine if it gets expanded more broadly in future elections. A report on effectiveness and costs is due by January. A task force was meeting Tuesday for an overview.
Electronic poll books are in use in other jurisdictions. For instance, 51 Iowa counties use them.
They contain the same type of information as the regular binder versions: voter registration data, a place for a signature and indication if someone already voted or has had a challenged registration status.
Cities eligible for the project are Dilworth, Minnetonka, Moorhead, Saint Anthony and St. Paul.
