MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Minneapolis police say a suspect is dead after a shootout that injured two officers.

The incident erupted after the man fled a Friday afternoon traffic stop on the city's south side. The two officers were in stable condition in a nearby hospital.

Police said earlier that the shootout happened when the suspect was cornered in a home he had broken into.

Spokeswoman Cyndi Barrington says the officers stopped the vehicle about 3:30 p.m. and the suspect fled and broke into a house. The homeowner alerted police, and a shootout ensued.

The homeowner, Jim Bickal, told reporters that two officers at the scene told him the suspect was dead. Bickal says police also told him each officer was shot in a leg.

He says he saw one of the officers with a leg bandage, conscious and drinking water.
