COLD SPRING, Minn. (KNSI) The officer who was on patrol with Tom Decker the night he was killed has resigned.
City administrator Paul Hetland says 39 year-old Greg Reiter turned in a brief resignation letter to Cold Spring City Council, but didn't give a reason for stepping down.
Reiter's actions have come under close scrutiny following Decker's death behind a Cold Spring bar the night of November 29th.
Investigators say he backed his car away from the scene and lost visual contact with the suspect, so he couldn't provide much valuable information.
Earlier this month, investigators announced they had recovered what they belived was the gun used to kill Decker. A man who was a suspect in the shooting--31 year-old Eric Thomes--hung himself before he could be questioned.
No one has been charged in Decker's death. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension still considers it an active investigation.
