ST. CLOUD (KNSI) - St. Cloud State University's students are settled in, and the St. Cloud Police Department reports a sharp drop in the number of citations issued during move-in weekend.
The report, released by the department today, indicates a total of 59 people were cited for various offenses, down from last year's 161.
Of the 59 people cited, only 18% were identified as current SCSU students, down from 34% last year.
Over three-fourths of the citations issued were related to underage consumption of alcohol or possession of an open container on the street or sidewalk.
A total of five people were taken to Stearns County Jail on charges.
The department, in tandem with SCSU and city of St. Cloud staff, teamed up to oversee the move-in of students on the city's south side beginning on Saturday.
They report making contact with 225 southside homes over the weekend, welcoming new residents and spreading awareness of ordinances, discussed police and college partnership efforts and shared safety tips.
Police say this the fourth consecutive year that the amount of move-in weekend citations has declined.
