ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) Ridership on both the Northstar Link Commuter bus and Northstar train grew in 2013.

The Northstar Corridor Development Authority says bus ridership grew nine-point-four percent last year, with total ridership at 55,213.

Train ridership was also up 12 percent from the year before. The authority says ridership was 787,239--the highest in the line's four year history.

Stearns County Commissioner Leigh Lenzmeier chairs the authority. He says reasons for the growth include stress-free travel and convenience.

The Northstar Commuter Rail Line, operated by Metro Transit, provides service on the 40-mile segment of existing track along Highways 10 and 47 from Big Lake to downtown Minneapolis.

Leigh Lenzmeier says the 2013 numbers look good

Lenzmeier comments on factors that could affect 2014 ridership

Does the growth make it an easier sell to extend the commuter rail service to St. Cloud?
