ST. CLOUD, MN (KNSI) - St. Cloud teachers have spoken -- they've approved a new $2.7 million contract with the St. Cloud School District. The district's board ratified that deal Wednesday.
Teachers finished their voting Wednesday afternoon and they voted to accept the agreement brokered last week. It represents a five percent increase over their previous deal with the district that ended last summer.
The contract covers last year and the school year that just started this week -- teachers will get a 1 percent pay raise for the current school year -- they'll also divvy up $600,000 as part of the settlement covering last year.
The vote wraps up almost a year of sometimes contentious talks between teachers and the district -- after 8 months of negotiating, the teachers asked talks be turned over to a mediator in May.
