WEST FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The reigning North Dakota teacher of the year is accused of engaging in sexual acts with a student more than five years ago.

A complaint filed Friday in East Central District Court charges Aaron Knodel (kah-NO'-del) with five felony counts of corruption or solicitation of a minor. He's scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 5.

Knodel is an English teacher and speech and debate coach at West Fargo High School. His lawyer, Robert Hoy, says Knodel is not guilty and successfully passed a polygraph test.

Authorities say the incidents happened in February or March of 2009, including twice in a classroom. The alleged victim was 17 years old at the time.

West Fargo school officials are recommending Knodel be placed suspension without pay or benefits until the case is decided.
