WILLISTON,, N.D. (AP) A researcher studying the impact of the oil boom on law enforcement in western North Dakota says police are busier in the area, but it's not the Wild West.

Carol Archbold, a North Dakota State University criminal justice associate professor, says people perceive there is a massive amount of violent crime in the oil patch, but violent crimes are not increasing as steadily as people think.

Archbold tells the Dickinson Press that police are getting more calls for alcohol- and drug-related crimes, traffic incidents and disorderly conduct.

Archbold and two doctoral students have interviewed officers from eight law enforcement agencies. The study will not be completed until later this year.
