ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) St. Cloud State University men's hockey coach Bob Motzko has announced that five student–athletes have committed to the program and will play collegiate hockey for the Huskies.
This group includes Michael Buonincontri (Montreal, Quebec), Charlie Lindgren (Lakeville, Minn.), Jimmy Schuldt (Minnetonka, Minn.), Ben Storm (Calumet, Mich.) and Daniel Tedesco (Maple, Ontario).
"We are very fortunate to receive commitments from these outstanding student-athletes," Motzko said. "They bring a great range of skills to our program and will make an impact on our program in the future."
A 6-1, 202-pound forward, Buonincontri is in his second season of play with the Smith Falls Bears of the Central Canada Hockey League. In 17 games played in 2012-13, Buonincontri has charted 14 goals and 12 assists for the Bears.
In 2011-12, Buoninconrtri opened the season on the roster of the Cornwall Colts of the CCHL before playing the final 37 games of the season with Smith Falls. He totaled seven goals and 17 assists last winter.
Lindgren is a 6-1, 181-pound goaltender for the Sioux Falls Stampede of the United States Hockey League. A resident of Lakeville, Minn., Lindgren (8-3-1) owns a 2.66 goals against average this winter for Sioux Falls with a .904 save rate in 12 games.
In 2011-12, Lindgren played in 33 games for the Stampede with a 3.33 goals against average and a .907 save rate.
A standout defender for the Minnetonka H.S. team, Schuldt (5-11, 195-pounds) is playing hockey this fall in the Upper Midwest High School Elite League for Team Southwest. In 23 games played this fall, Schuldt has notched one goal and 13 assists.
A 6-6, 213-pound defenseman, Storm is currently in his first season of play for Muskegon of the USHL. He has scored two assists in 11 games for Muskegon this winter.
A decorated prep player at Calumet High School, Storm scored 20 goals and 35 assists in 26 games during the 2011-12 prep season and also posted 13 goals and 26 assists at Calumet in 2010-11.
The group is completed by Tedesco, who is a 5-10, 185-pound forward from Maple, Ontario. He is currently playing during the 2012-13 season with the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots of the Ontario Junior Hockey League.
In 2011-12, Tedesco scored 41 goals and 40 assists in 69 games for the Lakeshore Patriots. In 20 games played during the 2012-13 season, Tedesco has already scored seven goals and 15 assists for Toronto Lakeshore.
St. Cloud State University is currently ranked #14/15 in the NCAA Division I national polls this week with a 7-5-0, 5-3-0 Western Collegiate Hockey Association record. The Huskies will continue their season on Nov. 30-Dec. 1 with a weekend series at WCHA rival Alaska Anchorage.
