ST. PAUL, MN (AP) - A man who ran over a St. Paul boy while doing wheelies on his a motorcycle will be released from jail just one day after he was sentenced.

Ernest Jonas was sentenced to 120 days Monday after pleading guilty to one count of criminal vehicular operation for the injuries he caused to 4-year-old Tyrell Baymon. With credit for time served, Jonas is eligible for release at the 80-day mark Tuesday.

Tyrell's mother, Marcia Scroggins, says the law needs to be changed.

Prosecutors had asked for a 365-day sentence against Jonas, who ran over Tyrell on the boy's way to his birthday party. The boy suffered critical injuries, though he's walking and playing again.

Jonas apologized to the family, saying he didn't mean to hit Tyrell and will pay restitution.
