MnSCU board to consider budget with tuition hikes

ST. PAUL, MN (AP) - Officials of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system say their proposed budget holds the line on tuition increases.

The MnSCU Board of Trustees considers the proposal Tuesday. Under the proposed budget, tuition for full-time students at the 24 state colleges would go up an average of 3.7 percent to $4,815 annually. Full-time students at the seven state universities would see tuition go up 4.4 percent to an average of $6,782 annually.

MnSCU Chancellor Steven Rosenstone says the proposed budget advances goals outlined in a strategic framework adopted by trustees in January.

Officials say MnSCU colleges and universities have reallocated more than $76 million to add teaching and student services positions, start new programs and balance budgets with moderate tuition increases.

The board will act on the budget next month.
