WILLMAR, Minn. (AP) — A Minnesota family is mourning relatives who died on Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 when it was shot down over eastern Ukraine.

Drew Ryder, of Willmar, says the 298 victims included his oldest brother, 54-year-old Arjen (AR'-jen) Ryder and his 52-year-old wife, Yvonne Ryder, of Albany, Western Australia.

Ryder tells The Associated Press they're drawing comfort from their Christian Reformed faith, and forgive whoever was responsible for shooting down the airliner. He says Christianity is about turning the other cheek, so responding with violence and retribution would be a betrayal of their faith.

If any good can come of this, he says, it would be changing the hearts and minds of whoever was involved.

Arjen Ryder worked for the Western Australia Department of Agriculture while Yvonne Ryder was a preschool teacher.
