WILLMAR, MN (AP) - Bob Harms is hitting top speeds of 7 mph as he drives from the Canadian border down across Minnesota to the Iowa border.
That's because he's driving a riding lawnmower.
The West Central Tribune of Willmar (http://bit.ly/OFJn6S) reports Harms began the 485-mile journey Aug. 20. He expects to reach Iowa Wednesday after a stop Tuesday at the Toro plant in Windom.
Harms has had hearing problems since infancy. He's raising money for the Minnesota Lions Children's Hearing Center at the University of Minnesota Amplatz Children's Hospital, and for research to improve the lives of hearing-impaired children.
He says he got the idea at a Lions Club convention. Toro donated his mower as well as a brand-new mower that will be raffled off to benefit the hearing center.
