ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - Two men, one a former teacher, learn their fates for hiring a teenage boy as a prostitute.
Joseph Vincent Burton, 60, from Cold Spring and Kenneth Neil Vilter, 56, from St. Cloud, each pleaded guilty to engaging in underage prostitution stemming from a May 2016 encounter with the boy at a park in Cold Spring.
Burton, who was once a teacher for Sauk Rapids-Rice Public Schools, was sentenced to 50 days in jail and given credit for 2 days already served.
The sentence allows him to serve the time on work release, electronic home monitoring, and community service.
Vilter was sentenced to two days in jail which he already served and 80-hours of community service.
Both men will be on probation for five years and pay a $1,500 fine.
Both sentences are a stay of imposition meaning the charges will be reduced from a felony to a misdemeanor after they complete their sentences.
The men separately met a 15-year-old through a Craigslist ad the boy posted and offered him money in exchange for a sexual act.
The boy told police he performed the sex act on the men in the woods near the park.
Investigators say data from the boy's cell phone and other electronic devices led to the discovery of numerous sexually explicit communications between the boy and others, including Burton and Vilter.
