STEARNS COUNTY (KNSI) - Two men have been named and charged in connection with a shooting earlier this week in St. Augusta.
The Stearns County sheriff says 30 year-old Erik Magnuson of St. Cloud, and 21 year-old Jerod Jakel of Sauk Rapids have admitted to their involvement in the incident, which took place at 23692 69th Avenue.
Reports say Jakel went into the home armed with a handgun, wearing a bandanna over his face, while Magnuson waited in the car.
Jakel allegedly fought with the victim over drugs and money owed when the gun went off, hitting the victim in the abdomen. Jakel says he then left the home with two bags of methamphetamine.
Witnesses in the home called 911 and gave authorities a description of Jakel and Magnuson, along with their vehicle. They were tracked by deputies to College Avenue in St. Joseph.
Investigators found evidence in the vehicle tying the men to the crime, including a sawed-off shotgun, an empty holster, a bandanna, and suspected meth. A loaded handgun was subsequently found submerged in a ditch nearby.
Both men were booked into the Stearns County Jail on 1st Degree Assault charges. Authorities say a search warrant was served on the home in which the crime occured to collect evidence, which could result in additional charges.
The victim of the shooting was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
