HILTON HEAD, SC (KNSI) - A mother and son from Melrose have been killed in an accident in South Carolina.

Authorities say a pickup truck driven by 33 year-old Blain Arvig went through a stop sign and struck a tree in Hilton Head. Arvig, who had been living in Hilton Head, died in the crash, along with his mother, 56 year-old Emily Arvig, who was visiting the area.

Blain Arvig was a 1999 graduate of Melrose High School.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol says both mother and son were trapped in the vehicle, and that Blain Arvig was not wearing a seatbelt.
